What can i expect the first session?

We spend the first session getting to know one another. This includes us identifying the issues you want to work on, the end result you desire, and a history of the problem. We also dedicate time to address any questions you may have for me regarding the therapy process. My personal goal for you is to leave our first session feeling heard, seen, and understood. If we determine we are not a good fit, I have an amazing network of therapists I can recommend. All sessions are 50 minutes in length although longer sessions can be requested.

What is a free phone consultation?

The 15 minute free phone consultation gives you an opportunity to ask any questions about my practice and myself that you may have. We also use this time to determine if we are a good fit and if I am the right therapist for you. If we are not are good fit, I am happy to refer to one of my colleagues.

Do you offer telehealth sessions?

Yes! In light of COVID-19, most of my sessions are being conducted on a HIPPA compliant video service.

Do you take insurance?

I am an out of network provider and do not directly take insurance. Most PPO plans allow you to see an out of network therapist. Call your insurance for verification. I will then provide you with a “Superbill” that provides all the information necessary you need for reimbursement. I’m happy to address any questions you may have on this process.

How many sessions will I need?

This varies for every client depending on what is bringing you in and the history of the issue.  Sometimes a circumstantial issue can be resolved in 4-6 sessions whereas childhood trauma takes some time to work through. After we meet together, we have a better idea on what that process may look like.

Do you integrate your faith into therapy?

My clients are from a variety of ethnic, cultural and religious backgrounds. I simply meet a client where they are at based on their OWN value system. I only integrate my faith into the counseling process when it is requested by the client. Though I am a Christian, I work with Christians and non-Christians, people who express their faith in a variety of ways, and people who express no interest in faith or God. My focus is on helping the client work through the issues they bring into counseling. I am comfortable and confident in working with whatever issues someone brings to therapy regardless of religious perspectives. If you have any questions or concerns about this, please feel free to contact me.

What is your therapeutic approach?

My work focuses on early childhood and understanding how those primary relationships affect the individual’s ongoing emotional development and how relationships are formed today. This developmental process grows and changes throughout our life-cycle. This is referred to as Attachment Theory and Object Relations Theory. I believe exploring the root of our issues facilitates healing rather than just placing a band-aid on the problem. My work with families is similar in that, together, we look for patterns of perspective and how they influence the family structure.

Are you trained in emdr?

Yes. EMDR is an evidenced based therapy used for a variety of clinical issues and especially helpful in the treatment of trauma.
