Let me introduce myself
Hello! My name is April Twenhafel and I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. I’d love to share a bit of my journey so you can get a sense of who I am and why I do this work.
I began my career with a degree in social work and spent four years serving in community-based roles. During that time, I worked with individuals from all walks of life who shared a common thread—pain. I found deep meaning in helping people navigate crisis moments, but I also recognized that true healing often required more than immediate support. I often referred clients to licensed therapists, and through that process, I discovered a calling of my own.
That realization led me to graduate school to become a Marriage and Family Therapist. Nineteen years later, I still feel incredibly grateful to do this work. Walking alongside people as they heal, grow, and reconnect with themselves and others is not just my profession—it’s my passion.
Let’s talk therapy
If you’re here, chances are something in your life feels heavy, painful, or is keeping you from living as fully as you'd like. Maybe you’ve tried therapy before. Maybe you’ve tried everything—books, exercise, leaning on friends, or even unhealthy ways of coping. Or perhaps this is your very first time reaching out for support.
Wherever you are in your journey, I’m glad you’re here. Choosing to explore therapy is a courageous step toward the life you want—and deserve.
In our work together, you’ll be met with warmth, compassion, and a safe space to explore what’s weighing you down. I know it can feel intimidating to open up to someone new and invite them into the vulnerable spaces of your heart and mind. That’s why I offer a free phone consultation—so you can get a sense of who I am and whether we might be a good fit.
Although I work with a variety of clinical issues, my specialities include:
Trauma and PTSD
Depression
Anxiety
Relational Issues
Let’s take that first step together.

Testimonials
“I met with April after a friend knew I was struggling with depression and anxiety and recommended her to me. Thank goodness I called and set up my first appointment a couple of years ago. April has helped me work through my life struggles and reassured me during times of self doubt. She’s accessible, professional, honest and kind. If you are looking for a therapist to talk to, start with April. ”
“I’m so thankful to have found April as I know it can be incredibly hard to find a therapist who you can trust and connect with. April is fantastic at knowing what to say even when I don’t know how to express my feelings. She has helped become very articulate and confident in myself despite the anxiety I deal with. She has given me the tools I need to work through my struggles. Despite the fact that I am not religious, April still provides counseling that works very well for my anxiety. I enjoy every session I have with April and can confidently trust her to help me through any problems I have.”
“One of the best advices I received in my life from one of my friends was to meet with April. Everyone should have a good personal relationship with their therapist and everyone needs something a little bit different, but for me... April is exactly what I have needed to help navigate through many of life’s twists and turns.”
“I’m so thankful I stumbled upon April through a recommendation from a very well known faith-based counseling center. She had a rare opening in her schedule at just the time I needed to see someone. Seriously, she is that good! I instantly knew April was just what I needed; I felt instantly comfortable in such an uncomfortable time of my life. Navigating through my faith and my pain, April helped me to bring the two into harmony. She is a real person. She knew just how far I could go in each session. She lovingly nudged me when I needed it and always respected my boundaries and process. She was able to give me words to put to my experiences and relationships in my life. The work we did together built a foundation that has allowed me to maintain a healthy and balanced emotional life. I can see the difference and I’m so thankful I had her help. I believe she is truly a great therapist. I cannot imagine anyone not loving her!”

Personal Life
I grew up in the Midwest and moved to Las Vegas in 2002, where I spent three years doing social work before heading to California to pursue my graduate degree. While I’ve grown to love life on the West Coast, I’ll always miss the crisp autumns in Illinois—there’s nothing quite like Midwest fall. These days, I’m officially that person who reaches for a sweater when it dips below 70 degrees!
Outside of work, life is full thanks to my husband and our two wonderful kids. They keep me on my toes in the best way. I also have a deep love for travel—exploring new places fills me with inspiration and joy, and there’s still so much of the world I can’t wait to see.
